With an unparalleled diversity of objects the Dresden State Collections are among the most universal and comprehensive collections worldwide. Constructed throughout four and a half centuries, the eleven museums provide exquisite treasures of art of the ancient world, Western Europe, the countries of the Orient as well as outstanding forms of presentation. The museums include collections of painting, sculpture, graphic and applied arts, and coins. They occupy magnificent buildings like the Zwinger, the Dresden Castle and the Albertinum.

The Dresden Armory consists of more than 10,000 objects of Russian, Western European and Oriental arms and armor. Part of the Armory is exhibited in the Giant's Hall in the Dresden Palace. There you get a comprehensive idea of the development of arms and armor from the Middle Ages to the middle of the eighteenth century. The items of the collection had been owned previously by the Wettin prince electors of Saxony, which gives the collection a personal touch that you will not find in any other collection in Dresden. Among Armories in Germany the 'Ruestkammer' is the best and very few armories worldwide can be compared with it.
